Japan“s Mitsui Chemicals is talking to Thailand“s Siam Cement group about a joint $100 million investment in a petrochemical plant for producing plastic resins. Mitsui Chemicals and Siam Cement unit Cementhai Chemicals (CCC) expect to make a decision on the project in 2002. If the project were implemented, it would start production from 2004 with an annual output capacity of 100,000 tons. The plant in south-east Rayong province would use feedstock produced by an existing Mitsui plant in the same province. Plastic resins are chemicals used for making high quality plastic containers. Officials at neither company were available for immediate comment on the report.
