26 February 1998: MFS Network Technologies Inc. is expected to start in spring 1998 the construction of a 276-mile fibre-optic cable system for the state of Illinois in the US. Reports say the firm was awarded a US$ 28 million contract in December 1998 to build a network that will serve the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority“s voice, data and communications needs. The fibre-optic network, which will also be used as a state-of-the-art foundation for the state“s I-Pass electronic toll collection programme, is expected to be completed by spring of 1999.
