Auto glass claims management leader LYNX Services has adopted the open source version of Ingres Database to process auto glass claims for its clients. LYNX Services manages over 3 million claims a year; more than 6,000 auto glass retailers depend on LYNX Services for electronic data interchange (EDI) transactions that comprise scheduling and dispatching auto glass installations and repair services, and consolidate billing, auditing, payment, including electronic invoicing and fund transfer. Applications running on Ingres Database are mission critical because the marketplace is connected electronically. For example, when an insurance company“s policy holder calls for help, LYNX Services accesses information on its insurance clients systems, making it especially important that the application is available at all times. Using the open source version of Ingres Database, LYNX Services customer service representatives process claims, and policy holders and insurance agents are able to process claims remotely. The high availability and transaction processing capability of Ingres are key benefits for LYNX Services. “Ingres is a very stable database”, said Darren Klaum, IT manager, LYNX Services, a division of PPG Industries. “It is efficient and fast, and works well for us. In adopting open source, one of our concerns was making sure we didn“t lose the quality or access to the support that we were getting, but the support at Ingres is great and moving to open source was definitely the right decision for us”. “The open source model also gives LYNX Services access to innovation in the Ingres community, as open source developers create enhancements that all Ingres customers can access”. “We are not going to go in and make changes to the operating system, that“s not our level of work”, said Klaum. “For us, a benefit of open source is the people in the marketplace developing features that Ingres incorporates into the main database and then distributes back out to everybody”. “LYNX Services is an Ingres Premium Services customer, which helps organizations maximize performance, availability, and capabilities of their Ingres products and Ingres-based solutions”, said Michael Lochead, senior vice president of worldwide support and services at Ingres. “We are proud to count LYNX Services as a customer and are gratified that they trust Ingres for their mission critical applications. Ingres Database provides availability, quick transactional processes, and easy development language, which points all organizations to success”.
