The lower demand on the US markets has negatively influenced the Slovenian exporters to the US. The metallurgy company Impol, which was Slovenia“s second largest exporter to the US in 2000, reported a 50% drop in orders from the US in 2001, compared to 2000. Impol“s exports of aluminium products to the USA totalled $US 15 million in 2000, but the company expects the 2001 volume to drop to half that figure. Slovenia“s third largest exporter to the US, the steelworks SZ-Metal, reported 20% less sales on the US markets in 2001 so far, compared to 2000. The glassworks Steklarna Rogaska, Slovenia“s largest exporter to the US, reported a 7.0% decrease in sales for 2001 so far, compared to 2000.
