US-based optical-products maker LightPath Technologies Inc. saw its shares jump after it received qualification to supply high-performance components to Avanex Corp. LightPath, which is expanding development activity for its optical switch programme, said the custom optics were designed for Avanex and incorporate its Gradium glass technology. Gradium is a glass material that reduces distortions associated with conventional lenses. Avanex, which makes photonic processors for the fibre-optic networks of the telecommunications industry, is in the process of qualifying other LightPath products, including customized versions of standard collimator products.
