5 November 1998: According to a company press release, US-based LightPath Technologies, Inc. has entered into a five-year strategic agreement with Rodenstock Prazisionsoptik GmbH, a subsidiary of Rodenstock Technologie GmbH. Both companies will work to develop, manufacture and jointly-distribute Gradium-based optical products in Europe. Gradium glass is the revolutionary axial gradient index glass developed by LightPath. Rodenstock is a major manufacturer of precision optical components and systems. Their products include high-end camera lenses, precision optical components, medical instruments and laser and imaging systems. Donald E. Lawson, President and Chief Executive Officer of LightPath, said, “This agreement with Rodenstock, a leader in sophisticated, high-end optical systems, is the result of nearly twelve months of work between the technical staffs of both companies to characterize and design multi-element systems with our proprietary materials. The end result of that effort has been Rodenstock“s receipt tract for a next-generation camera system from a very reputable European camera company. After the accomplishment, the next logical step for our two companies was to expand the working relationship with this strategic agreement.” Under the terms of this Agreement, LightPath will provide exclusive rights to Rodenstock for the sales and distribution of Gradium-based products in Europe. Rodenstock will establish a Gradium design and manufacturing center in its German facilities and further provide access to its sales distribution network to promote the sales of Gradium-based systems that are proprietary to LightPath and those new systems developed by Rodenstock. Further, it was agreed that a joint advertising campaign would be established to promote the products and the joint venture. LightPath said it believes that this agreement will serve to provide for the expansion of its family of Gradium products and enhance its position in European markets.
