In August this year LG Electronic acquired a 20% stake or 1.61 million shares of Hankuk Electric Glass Co., Ltd, which makes glass for cathode ray tubes used in televisions. LG.Philips Display will use the glass made by Hankuk Electric Glass for cathode-ray tubes, and LG Electronics will use the cathode-ray tube to make televisions and monitors, thus saving costs. So far LG.Philips Display has been purchasing 70% of the glass it uses for making cathode ray tubes. It is also reported that LG Electronics and Asahi Glass co-manage a glass manufacturing plant in Indonesia.
