Ed Garrett and his wife Nell recently closed Lanier Glass Co. after years of business Garrett partnered with the business’ founders Doug and Evelyn Brannon 10 years after the company was started.

Lanier Glass Co., located in Gainesville, Ga., has closed after 53 years of activity.
The company was started up by Doug and Evelyn Brannon in 1958, who then partnered with Ed Garrett 10 years later. In 1992, the Brannons retired, leaving Garrett with sole ownership of the company.
However, due to a slow economy and declining health, Garrett decided to close Lanier Glass on 30 September. In fact, Garrett blames the 2008 recession that slowed all construction business as having a direct impact on Lanier Glass’ revenues.
The company mainly installed glass and constructed storefronts in schools and other businesses all over northeast Georgia.
