The US glass and specialty foods company, Lancaster Colony Corporation reported that its net income in the second quarter ended 31 December 2000, amounted to US$ 29,397,000 compared to US$ 33,120,000 earned in the corresponding quarter a year ago. Earnings per share were 78 cents versus 83 cents in the second quarter last year. Net sales were US$ 314 million compared to US$ 324 million a year ago. Net income for the six months ended 31 December 2000 was US$ 50,835,000 compared to US$ 55,693,000 earned in the corresponding period a year ago. Basic and diluted earnings per share were US$ 1.34 versus US$ 1.39 for the first half of 1999. Six-month net sales were US$ 578 million in 2000 compared to US$ 585 million in the prior year. The glassware and candles business experienced a 13% decline in net sales and 40% lower operating income for the quarter. Automotive sales were down 10% for the quarter.
