San Miguel Corp (SMC) said on 4 July that its liquor unit La Tondena Distillers, Inc. posted a net income of PHP 702 million in the first five months of the year, 42% higher from the same period in 2001. La Tondena, the Philippines“ biggest liquor firm, also recorded an operating income of PHP 1.17 billion in the five-month period, up 6% year-on-year. The firm“s liquor volumes in May were 5% higher than the same year-ago period, San Miguel said in a statement. La Tondena posted a net income of PHP 543 million in the first four months, an increase of 39% percent compared to 2001. Shares of La Tondena were up 1.56% at PHP 32.50. The main stock index fell 0.43% at 1,136.60 points.
