1 October 1998: According to a recent press report, Kungrad Soda Complex and Mannesmann Seiffert of Uzbekistan are to invest US$ 600 million in a new soda ash and chlor-alkali complex. The project is expected to be completed by 2001, and will have a capacity of 190,000 tonnes per year of soda ash, 200,000 tonnes per year of technical grade and table salt, 20,000 tonnes per year of high purity salt, 130,000 tonnes per year of chlorine, 150,000 tonnes per year of caustic soda and 200,000 tonnes per year of sodium bicarbonate. Mannesmann Seifert is to build the US$ 200 million processing plants, which will use Solvay technology, the report said. Krupp Uhde, Asahi Chemical and Lurgi are reportedly submitting tenders for the chlor-alkali plant.
