Kimble Glass Inc. has been cited by US Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 for alleged clean-air violations at the company“s container glass manufacturing plant at Chicago Heights, Illinois. The EPA alleges that Kimble failed to comply with limits in its state operating permit on visible particulate emissions (smoke, ash, dust) from a glass melting furnace. The alleged violations were discovered during a January 2006 inspection. “EPA“s mission is to protect public health and the environment”, said Acting Regional Administrator Bharat Mathur. “We will take whatever steps are needed to ensure compliance with the Clean Air Act”. To resolve the alleged violations, EPA may issue a compliance order, assess an administrative penalty or bring suit against the company. Kimble has 30 days from receipt of the notice to meet with EPA to discuss the resolution of the allegations.
