Russian glassware manufacturer Kavminsteklo (Stavropol Territory, south Russia) has started the first phase of enlarging glassware production included in a program for strategic development of the company between 2005 – 2010. The program adopted by the company“s board of directors aims to replace two glass furnaces with a capacity of 180 tonnes of glass per day with one furnace with a maximum capacity of 450 tonnes. The new furnace will be located at a purpose-built facility. It is planned to install six imported IS machines (6 and 8 sections) with a complete combination of control and packing equipment. According to a statement by Kavminsteklo officials, the project is based on up-to-date world trends of developing glassware production. Expenses for implementing this project are estimated at USD 30 million. On completion of this phase of the plant upgrades in 2006, Kavminsteklo will be able to produce 850 tones of glass per day or 650 million bottles per year.
