19 November 1998: According to a recent press report, Australia-based company JML Engineered Facades has begun design work on two engineering contracts in Singapore and Hong Kong worth more than A$ 8 million. The company specializes in suspended glass walls, roofs and atriums and is considered a leader in this field, both in Australia and South-East Asia. The Singapore-based project is for 2,000 metres of glass wall in the Posbank Tower penthouse, and the 52-storey tower will be one of Singapore“s most imposing buildings, the report said. The Hong Kong project is for an atrium glass wall and roof at Dragonair“s headquarters building at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong“s new international airport. Managing director of JML Engineered Facades, Mr. Michael Lavis, said the contracts showed that Asia was fighting back from its economic troubles. “We are pleased that these major projects are continuing, showing the strength in major infrastructure and commercial developments in selected South-East Asian countries,” said Lavis. He said most of the components for the two projects would be manufactured in Australia, shipped overseas and assembled on site. Installation would be carried out by sub-contractors supervised by JML project staff. Work on both projects had begun, with JML expecting to be on site in Hong Kong in April and in Singapore in May. JML Engineered Facades was recently named “Emerging Exporter of the Year“ at the Premier“s 1998 NSW Exporter of the Year awards in Sydney. The company is a member of the JML Group which includes JML Constructions and developer Tekton Holdings.
