Japan“s Asahi Glass has said that its production of double glazed insulating glass will rise from 2.8 million square metres to 6 million square metres by 1998. The company has 15 lines in operation but plans to add another 20. Another Japanese firm, Nippon Sheet Glass, will increase its capacity to 2.5 million square metres and is aiming at production of 6 million square metres by the year 2000. The production increases are directed at supplying the construction market.
