4 June 1998: Recent press reports say that Japan and the United States recently held a fifth follow-up meeting in Washington, on their 1994 agreement to open Japan“s sheet glass market wider to US products. Officials from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and other Japanese government agencies were expected to meet with their counterparts from the Office of the US Trade Representative for two days, government sources said. This type of follow-up meeting is held once or twice a year, to go over US firms“ efforts to expand sheet glass exports to Japan, as well as Tokyo“s market-opening measures.
