Czech Jablonex Group will produce costume jewellery for Parisian fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel, Jablonex spokesman Petr Vondrich said 29 January 2007. In 2006, Jablonex paid an undisclosed sum for France“s Fried Freres, which sells costume jewellery in Europe, the USA, and the Middle and Far East. Mr. Vondrich said the acquisition was another step towards boosting the position of Czech costume jewellery makers on foreign markets, to which they sell about 98% of their output. Fried Freres, established 120 years ago, sells merchandise worth EUR 6 million (CZK 170 million) a year. The company with 50 staff is noted for selling the Fried Paris costume jewellery. Jablonex Group was established through a merger of Czech glassworks and costume jewellery producers Ornela, Jablonex, Bizuterie Ceske Mincovny, Zeleznobrodske sklo, and Bohemian Jewelry. The group with 3,500 staff generated turnover of CZK 3 billion in 2005. Bijouterie Trading Company (BTC) is the majority shareholder with 73% of the shares worth CZK 52.4 million.
