4 December 1997: Isolite Insulating Products, the Japanese refractory materials producer affiliated with Nippon Sheet Glass, announced in mid-November that the company“s half-year ordinary profits had fallen 40% to 84 million yen on sales which had fallen by 7%. While overseas sales of the company“s insulation products were favourable, demand for their furnace building works diminished considerably. Interim dividends were reduced from 2 yen to 1 yen, while year-end dividends are expected to fall to 5 yen. Sales by the end of the fiscal year (31 March 1998) are expected to fall a total of 2% to 11 billion yen, with ordinary profits down 20% to 250 million yen.
