The indirect impact of EU Emissions Trading on electricity prices, an issue of concern to power intensive industries in the EU including glass, was tabled on the Agenda of the EU Competitiveness Council held on 11 and 12 March 2004. The Council has invited the European Commission, in the context of the EU“s Emissions Trading regime, to provide an assessment to the Council of the effect of the regime on the competitiveness of European industry, with particular regard to possible effects on electricity prices. The document describing the solution proposed by the associations representing power intensive industries in the EU is now available on the “Research/ Surveys ” section of GlassOnline.
