The Indian Government has so far received 77 petitions seeking imposition of anti-dumping duties, and definitive dumping duties have been recommended in the cases of 46 items, the upper house of Indian parliament was informed. The Anti-dumping Directorate set up under the Commerce Ministry in 1997 has also recommended preliminary dumping duties in the case of 12 items, including optical fibre, soda ash and Purified Terepthalic Acid, the federal minister of commerce and industry Murasoli Maran said. According to details provided by the minister, dumping duties have been sought in the cases of 29 products originating from China. The Anti-dumping Directorate recommended definitive duties in March this year in the cases of five items including acrylic fibre from Turkey, barium carbonate from China and polystyrene originating from China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. Maran said there were 12 cases where preliminary duties have been recommended but awaited final duties. These included optic fibre from South Korea, with a provisional duty ranging between Rs 122-Rs 610.14 per kg, and soda ash from China that attracts a provisional duty of Rs 391.27-Rs 1036 per tonne.
