Shield Autoglass Ltd, which offers auto glass repair services under the “Windshield Experts“ brand, is planning to open 77 new outlets across India over the next three years. Implementation of the proposal will bring the company“s total number of outlets to over 100 across 19 cities in the country. There are currently 27 Windshield Experts outlets, the Chief Operations Officer of Shield Autoglass, Mr Ratish Ramanujam, said on 10 June 2005. The Delhi-based company plans to open outlets in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu In 2005. “By the end of the year, we will cover 60% of the total car population in India,” Mr Ramanujam told the press at the launch of the company“s new outlet at Vadodara. “Minor chips in the windscreen glass can be repaired through a special cleaning process and filling with a resin that has optical properties similar to glass. If repairs are not carried out quickly, the cracks can spread and replacement is the only option,” Mr Ramanujam said. Shield Autoglass is trying to increase awareness about its technology and is also lobbying for an amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act to make laminated windscreens compulsory even in the replacement market. “Globally, windscreen repair is an established practice. We are the only company offering the facility in India and our focus now is to build awareness,” Mr Ramanujam said.
