Ilium announced at the end of September 2009 that it is to establish a new fiberglass manufacturing facility at the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP). Ilium“s partners in the new company are Bahrain Fibreglass (BFG) International, located in Bahrain, and French fiberglass industry experts Gilbert Chomarat and Frederic Romier. At the new plant, Ilium will manufacture and commercialize reinforced fiberglass by means of a new process technology designed, developed and patented by Chomarat. The new company will build a specifically designed 6,000 sq.m. facility on a site of 10,000 sq.m. at the BIIP, involving investments of more than BD5 million. Once up and running, the plant will provide more than 50 quality jobs for Bahrainis with further jobs being provided in transportation and logistics, with annual production of more than 15,000 tonnes of reinforced fiberglass, to be sold to customers in the transportation, recreational and alternative energy industries in the Middle East, US, Europe, Asia, as well as to developing markets including Brazil.
