Hoya Corp. recorded a consolidated operating profit of JPY 12.6 billion for the April-June quarter, a year-on-year increase of 9%, the company announced on 22 July. Hoya“s vision care division, which produces eyeglass lenses and other products, saw a 2% increase in sales on strong business abroad in Europe and Asia. In addition, the company“s electro-optics division, which manufactures mask products used in semiconductor production, recorded gains. Overall, group sales rose 2% to JPY 61.2 billion. Consolidated net profit declined 8% to JPY 6.9 billion. This decline was due in large part to a non-operating exchange loss of JPY 1.4 billion. For the fiscal half through 30 September, Hoya forecasts a group operating profit of JPY 24.6 billion, up 8% from the year-earlier result. The company expects group sales to rise 3% to JPY 121.9 billion on continued strong showings from its vision care and electro-optics divisions. Hoya forecasts a group net profit of JPY 13.5 billion, a small decline.
