The US manufacturer of lighting fixtures and systems, Holophane Corporation, recently announced its financial results for the second quarter ended 30 June 1997. The company reported worldwide sales of US$ 48.6 million, up 9% from the US$ 44.6 million for the same period last year. Operating income was US$ 6.5 million, up from US$ 6.3 million. Net income improved 8%, and rose from US$ 3.6 million to US$ 3.9 million. Earnings per common share for the quarter were US$ 0.34, an increase of 10% over the corresponding period last year. “Our sales and earnings were at record levels for the second quarter, aided by the addition of the MetalOptics product line which was acquired in September 1996,” said John R. DallePezze, Chairman and CEO. “Our order rate is strong going into the third quarter and we continue to see success with our new Polestar and fluorescent products.” For the six-month period ended 30 June 1997, sales increased 15% to US$ 95 million from US$ 82.6 million for the first half of 1996. Operating income rose 20% to US$ 11.9 million compared to US$ 9.9 million in 1996. Net income rose from US$ 5.6 million last year to US$ 7 million this year, while earnings per common share increased 25% to US$ 0.60 (from US$ 0.48).
