Heye-Glas, the German-based company, has become one of the contractors for the building of Amcor Ltd.“s new production plant for container glass in South Australia. Amcor decided to open a new plant due to the boom in sales of Australian wine. The contract was signed in November 2000, in the offices of Leighton Contractors, Melbourne, the company responsible for building the new glass factory. It will produce only wine bottles and is to be located in the largest wine region in Australia, near Barossa Valley. The new factory, to start operations in July 2002, will employ about 120 people and have a production of about 200 million wine bottles per year. The managing director of Amcor, Mr. Russel Jones, said that the company is offering a very competitive alternative source of glass supply. This is done by building and locating a world-class plant near the primary wine producers, and by supplying it with the most productive equipment available.
