US glass group Guardian is to set up a new plant in Brazil in response to increasing demand in the region. The company intends to build the new unit in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina or Parana in order to supply the southern regions and also Mercosur nations. In addition, the Guardian plant in Porto Real (Rio de Janeiro), which is operating above capacity, will be expanded, with investments totalling US$ 30 million. Guardian“s current annual turnover in Brazil is around US$ 100 million. Of total daily production at its Brazilian unit, 20% is exported to Argentina, Venezuela, Chile and Bolivia.
