2 April 1998: Oparations at Guardian Flachglas, of Wolfen-Thalheim, the German unit of US glass group Guardian, said it would continue to grow. Guardian Glass President Russell Ebeid said that the company plans to invest an additional DM 40 million in the facility, to install a new architectural glass laminating line. “Since entering the European flat glass market more than 17 years ago, Guardian has witnessed considerable changes in the industry. It has become much more sophisticated in its use of flat glass to increase safety and to aid in the conservation in energy. To meet this demand for more innovative products, Guardian began to add several fabrication lines at Guardian facilities to better accommodate the needs of its European customers. Today, we are pleased to announce the addition of a new architectural laminating line at Flachglas to better meet those needs.” The new line was announced on 19 March 1998. All laminated glass sold by the group in Europe has been until now only manufactured at the company“s plants in Spain and Luxembourg. Guardian is a worldwide manufacturer of float glass, fabricated glass products, and is also a supplier of vehicle glass and exterior trim systems to the global automotive industry.
