The organizers of the Glass Processing Days Conference (GPD) from 15-18 June 2007 in Tampere, Finland, announced at the end of May 2007 that Fiona Hall MEP will be the new opening speaker and grand panellist together with the three top executives. Ms. Hall is a member of the Industry Research and Energy (ITRE) and Development Committees in the European Parliament. The ITRE Committee is responsible for a number of policy areas: EU industrial policy and the application of new technologies; research policy; space policy; the activities of the Joint Research Centre and the Central Office for Nuclear Measurements, as well as JET, ITER and other projects in the same area; EU measures on energy policy in general, the security of energy supply and energy efficiency including the establishment and development of trans-European networks in the energy infrastructure sector; the Euratom Treaty and Euratom Supply Agency; nuclear safety, decommissioning and waste disposal in the nuclear sector; the information society and information technology, including the establishment and development of trans-European networks in the telecommunication infrastructure sector. In May 2007, Ms. Hall was appointed European Parliament “Rapporteur” on the European Commission Energy Efficiency Action Plan. The other speakers on the opening day of this 10th edition of the GPD conference are Tomoaki Abe from Nippon Sheet Glass; Russell J. Ebeid of Guardian Industries Corp.; and Arthur Ulens from AGC Flat Glass and Glaverbel.
