As glass technology goes green, the need to engage all people in the glass and building construction supply chains can no longer be ignored. For the industry to enjoy sustainable development, everyone within the supply chain needs to have a good understanding of what others within the supply chain can do. It is for this reason that the GPD 2009 conference programme has integrated a forum for architects. The forum is designed to bring architects, structural engineers and glass industry experts together. The objective is to provide an opportunity to discuss new solutions and procedures in the use of glass as a construction material. Highlights of the forum include: The Need for Research and Development Collaboration between Designers and Industry – John Kooymans, Halcrow Yolles Inc.; Light in the Public Realm – James Carpenter, Carpenter Design Associates Inc.; and Transparent Cubical Glass Building in Madrid – Mick Eekhout, TU Delft/Octatube International.
