The Czech Republic glassmaker Glavunion, a subsidiary of Belgium“s Glaverbel, began production of its first coloured flat glass on 21 February. Company spokesman Martin Kubat described it as a historic step in flat glass production in the region. Previously, coloured float glass had to be imported here, he added. The glass will be made in three colours: green, grey and bronze. The new production is the result of the Kc 1.8 billion reconstruction of the no. 1 float line, which ended last September. The reconstruction also increased the daily capacity from 320 to 600 tonnes and has improved the quality of glass. Glavunion staff have undergone intensive training from Glaverbel experts. Green glass, which will be the first to be made, will be used in architecture as well as in the car industry.
