Czech glassmaker Glaverbel will begin construction in October on a new plant for the production of heat resistant glass, according to spokeswoman Alena Janotkova. The value of the plant, to be built in Pyrobell, Olovi, will be announced after the company board makes a final decision. The new plant is to be built on the site of the Vertec glassworks, which Glaverbel closed in December 1999. The old plant lacked the equipment for the production of thin, and extra thin glass. The demolition of the old plant has already started. The new, fully-automated plant will employ 50 workers, where the old Vertec glassworks employed 200, said Janotkova. The plant will meet increased demand for heat resistant glass in Central Europe, where such glass is now being imported from Belgium. Glaverbel Czech is the largest flat glass producer in Central and Eastern Europe. It is a 100 % subsidiary of Belgium Glaverbel, Europe“s leading producer of flat glass.
