In 2001 Glaverbel Czech, the largest producer of flat glass in Central and Eastern Europe, paid the entire DM 55 million (CZK 980 million) worth bond issue made in 1996, spokeswoman Alena Janotkova said on 18 March, adding that the money went in particular for investments. In 2000 the company made another bond issue, this one worth CZK 3 billion. The bonds will mature in 2008. The money will be used for covering debts and for investments and current operation. They can also serve as loans for the company“s subsidiaries. According to preliminary unaudited figures, Glaverbel Czech raised sales by 13.5% year-on-year to CZK 7.969 billion in 2001. Exports rose by 10.3% and made up 69.5% of the sales. Net profit was up 19.3% to CZK 1.109 billion. Glaverbel Czech is fully owned by Glaverbel Group, part of the company Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. and Europe“s second largest flat glass producer.
