16 September 1998: The Belgian glass producer Glaverbel has just announced that it has changed the names of its European subsidiaries and the European companies it recently acquired from PPG Industries Inc. The PPG companies acquired in Italy and France have been renamed Glaverbel Italy and Glaverbel France, respectively. The PPG Maasglass unit in the Netherlands becomes Glaverbel Nederland. Glavunion in the Czech Republic becomes Glaverbel Czech. Glaverbel said its automotive activities would bear the name Splintex, which will also be used as the brand name for the unit“s glass products. The company reported first-half 1998 net profits up 67% to BFr 1.112 billion.
