Belgian glass group Glaverbel has launched a new range of solar control glass called SUNERGY, which uses a new CVD (chemical vapour deposition) process to deliver low levels of reflection and a neutral appearance. CVD involves applying, on-line, a thin, perfectly uniform coating of metal oxides to the glass. This operation is possible thanks to the reaction of a very hot gas on the glass ribbon. The gas comes into contact with the glass and forms a hard, “pyrolitic“ coating. SUNERGY provides solar protection as well as good thermal insulation, and, says Glaverbel, is suited to current architectural trends. SUNERGY is the first range of hard-coated glasses to offer the advantage of keeping rooms warm in winter and cool in summer, thus giving thermal comfort with excellent solar control and thermal insulation ratings. SUNERGY made its world debut in Dsseldorf last October at Glasstec 2000, the biennial trade show for the glass sector. The initial results are very promising.
