The Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel announced recently that sales in the third quarter and the first nine months of 1997 had risen 11% on a comparable basis with the same period in 1996, and expected good results for the full year. The company said third-quarter sales totalled BFr 10.5 billion (up 18% on the third quarter of 1996), while for January to September they were BFr 31.8 billion (a 17% improvement on the year-earlier figure) thanks to sustained strong demand. Glaverbel repeated its earlier forecasts that the results for the second half of this year would markedly exceed those of the second six months of 1996. “This increase should therefore lead to a substantial rise in operating results for the year as a whole,” Glaverbel said in a statement, confirming also that “the level of business should remain excellent for all the group“s activities throughout 1998.”
