Glaverbel France, a subsidiary of Japanese glass manufacturer Asahi Glass, has announced plans to close its plant at Donchery in the Ardennes region of France. A meeting of the central works council is scheduled for 13 September 2006 in Paris to approve the plans. The company has decided to close the site as it is too small and too remote; the plant has also registered annual losses of EUR 1.5 million over the last three years. The site has a workforce of 122; Glaverbel has 50,000 employees in total, 2,400 of whom are based in France. The company says that it will take advantage of all available opportunities to redeploy staff within the organisation.
