11 December 1997: Glaverbel, the Belgian unit of Japan“s Asahi Glass, has now finalised plans to take a 26% stake in Bor Glassworks, Russia“s largest glassmaker. (For full details see the Weekly World News story of 25 September 1997). Glaverbel will have to pay out US$ 20 million before the end of 1997 for the stake, with the EBRD and the IFC also contributing. Bor“s prospects look more healthy now following a joint project between the Russian carmaker Gaz and Italy“s Fiat, which should mean substantial orders for the flat glass producer.
