Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel SA and plastics group Recticel SA expect a Czech joint venture to post sales of BFr 235 million this year, following the opening of a new car window plant. In a recent statement, the companies said they invested BFr 115 million in the Splirec-C joint venture and expect sales of 2.5 million car windows a year. Company officials inaugurated the new plant in Bilina, Czech Republic, near an existing Splirec-C plant. The companies expect to boost the number of employees at Splirec-C to 350 from 250. Glaverbel“s automotive glass unit, Splintex Czech, will supply glass to the plant. Splirec-C will then fit that glass with a polyurethane strip around the edge. The companies said pre-fitted car windows are increasingly in demand by car manufacturers because they facilitate the windows“ installation. The windows will be exported to auto manufactures such as France“s Renault SA, General Motors Corp.“s (GM) Adam Opel AG unit, Japan“s Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Volkswagen AG“s Skoda AS unit.
