An Energy Efficiency and Solar Park will be erected in Sorsapuisto, Tampere, for two days in June, during GPD. The theme park showcases solutions for renewable energy and energy efficiency in construction in particular, as well as new innovations to consumers. The Energy Efficiency and Solar Park is the first of its kind in Finland. The public will have access to energy saving and ecological solutions on 17-18 June 2011. The event is open for everyone free of charge. The City of Tampere“s ECO2 project is involved in organizing the event. Among other things, the ECO2 project exhibition stand showcases the current energy efficiency work and future projects of the City of Tampere for utilizing renewable energy. For instance, Rane“, the energy information service for construction and housing, will give advice on energy efficient renovation solutions for single-family houses. Glass is closely linked to energy saving solutions related to housing. The latest information on the significance of windows in temperature control is provided at the event. Among others, the Finnish glass industry companies Fenestra Oy, Rakla Tampere Oy, Alavus Ikkunat, Kenset Oy and Aki-Lasi Oy will be presenting their solutions. The sun is the basic energy source for the earth, and is renewable, emission-free and lasts forever. Solar energy can be utilized efficiently to heat buildings and domestic hot water, even in Finland. Solar energy systems are installed in single-family houses and leisure homes in particular. With a well-designed system that has been installed and adjusted correctly, the heating costs of domestic hot water can be reduced by as much as 50%. Consumers can learn about various solar energy systems at the Solar Park. Lamit Oy will introduce its latest solar energy collector at the event. Valmet Automotive will introduce its electric concept car Eva at Solar Park. Eva is an electric vehicle with 2+2 seating. It travels up to 160km on a single charge at a top speed of 120 km/h. The concept car is a one-of-a-kind vehicle created to develop electric vehicle know-how at Valmet Automotive. More than a dozen Finnish partners ranging from companies to higher education institutions participated in the concept car project. In the near future, small-sized buildings that exploit the latest glass technology solutions will be erected in central Tampere. Respected Finnish and foreign architects have been invited to design the buildings. The main goal of the Architect Competition is to incorporate a series of architectural glass beads into the cityscape. The design and construction of the buildings will exploit the latest glass technology and improve the architectural profile of Tampere. The competition is organized by the City of Tampere, Finnpark, the University of Tampere, Glaston and GPD. The outcome of the first Architect Competition will be published on 17 June 2011, and the competition entries will be displayed at Solar Park.
