24 September 1998: Following the postponement of Interbuild 1999 until May 2000 and the announcement of its relaunch as an Emap Montgoiuery joint venture, there has been some speculation that GLASSEX 2000 would be integrated into Interbuild. “This is not the case,” the company said in a recent press release. Since 1994 GLASSEX has maintained an impressive growth rate of more than 10% year on year, culminating in the 1998 exhibition, which at 12,705 sq m was by far the biggest ever, said sales manager A J Higgin of GLASSEX. In anticipation of an even bigger show in 1999, the GLASSEX organising team is currently negotiating additional hall space, Higgin said. Visitor numbers and more importantly, visitor profile, continues to improve and GLASSEX is now one of the UK“s leading trade shows for audience quality, with 96% of visitors placing orders as a result of visiting GLASSEX 1998, the report said. Interbuild and GLASSEX have very different audiences, the report said. As a general building event, Interbuild traditionally attracts building contractors, surveyors and architects. GLASSEX has a more vertical profile, delivering manufacturers and installers of doors, windows and conservatories, as well as glass processors, merchants and sealed unit manufacturers. The clear difference between the specifier and buyer, said the report, is that whilst some exhibitors may need to reach both, the two events, for the most part, attract different exhibitors. Consequently, GLASSEX said it will maintain its independence and continue to provide the glass and fenestration markets with a dedicated event.
