15 April 1999: The former British Glass Technology Ltd. was relaunched on 31 March this year under the new title of Glass Technology Services Ltd. (GTS). GTS is a wholely owned subsidiary of the British Glass Manufacturers Confederation created in 1988 by the merger of the British Glass Industry Research Association (BGIRA) and the Glass Manufacturers Federation (GMF). According to the British company, the technical activities now incorporated under GTS have always had an excellent reputation for providing an independent, unbiased and confidential service to clients. The new company“s name serves to emphasize this independence and to recognize the evolution in the nature of the company“s business. The focus of the technical activities has moved from large research projects to the provision of fast turn-round, quality, technological services, equipment and consultancy. GTS“ customers and clients now include companies from throughout the supply chain as well as manufacturers. Work is carried out for clients from many sectors of the glass and glass related industries throughout the world. The company reinforces that its mission is still to provide a premier glass related technical service to the world of glass. GTS has undertaken a programme of recruitment and investment to strengthen its resources to deliver this service. The principal areas of operation of GTS include: UKAS accredited analysis; and diagnostic services; glass technology and melting; consultancy; instrumentation; IT and web services; energy and environmental consultancy and services. Commenting on the launch of the new company, Dave Dalton, the new technical services manager said “the new company name emphasizes our ability to offer an independent, unbiased and confidential service to clients from all sectors of the glass industry on an international basis”. He added, ” we are always ready and willing to discuss how we might help any client with a glass related application or problem”.
