The Spanish glass industry“s turnover rose by 1.8% to Ptas 89,437 million in the financial year 1999, according to ANFEVI, the Spanish glass packaging manufacturers federation, representing 98% of Spanish producers. Turnover has thus risen by 22.5% over the last five years. In 1999, a total of 5,577 million glass bottles and containers were sold. The highest growth rate was recorded in wines and spirits, the areas in which glass is traditionally used exclusively and predominantly. In addition, fillers of fruit juices and other upmarket drinks are increasingly going back to underline the quality of their products. Top of the range foods for export are also being packed in glass.
