China“s fast-growing construction, interior decoration and automobile markets have boosted the development of the country“s glass industry, with annual glass output rising sharply to 200 million square metres. According to a senior official with the State Administration of Building Materials Industry, China is restructuring the glass industry and developing high-quality glass products. Statistics show that China“s total interior decoration costs stand at 80 billion yuan annually. The country“s annual housing construction totals 300 million square metres in floor space in urban areas, with demand for glass products topping 18 million square metres. In addition, construction of various other buildings including office buildings and hotels is developing fast, which has sharply stimulated demand for glass products. The official added that the automobile industry, which will be another huge market for high-quality glass products, has become a pillar industry in China“s economic development.
