Industry veteran David Rohlfing has resigned as president and chief executive officer of Glass America, effective immediately. He declined to comment on what led to his decision. Rohlfing, who remains a minority shareholder in the company, has not yet decided what his next move might be.
Rohlfing has been with Glass America since 2004, when he joined with a group of investors to acquire the Chicago-based company. Rohlfing has a long history in the industry, starting in 1972 as an auto glass installer trainee. From 1978 to 1986, he owned and operated Magic Auto Glass, which consisted of nine retail auto glass shops and a warehouse distribution company in Florida. In 1986 Magic Auto Glass was sold to Safelite Glass Corp. Rohlfing held several positions with Safelite, including that of regional vice president for the New England region until his departure in 1989.
In 1990, he joined Windshields America, a Belron International subsidiary, where he held the positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer, until he was named president and chief operating officer in 1992.
When Windshields America and Globe Glass and Mirror merged, forming Vistar Auto Glass, Rohlfing moved on to join Belron International at the company’s headquarters in Richmond, Surrey, UK, as executive director, and was responsible for new market development for Belron International in South America, North America and Asia. He also was responsible for building businesses in Brazil and Canada.
Rohlfing held a number of other positions with Belron International, including president and chief executive officer/vice chairman of the board of Belron Canada, along with board responsibility for Carglass Brasil until he left the company in 2001.
