Waterford Wedgwood, the Irish crystal and ceramic company, is counting on the reflected glitz of show businessto grow its business in the US next year. Waterford said it has reached an agreement with US designer Vera Wang, who designed Victoria Beckham“s bridal gown and who is also a favourite of Basic Instinct star Stone, to produce a range of china tableware. Unveiling a 9.6% fall in first-half pretax profits to GBP 8.5 million, which reflected difficult economic trading conditions, Waterford president Redmond O“Donoghue said he would be “disappointed“ if the collection did not contribute GBP 1.3-2.1 million in the next financial year. The company posted a 3.4% increase in first-half sales to GBP 282 milion and will pay a 0.4p-a-share interim dividend. O“Donoghue said the company had performed well given the difficult trading conditions. However, he was unable to say when the company expected an upturn.
