Germany“s Viag AG unit Gerresheimer Glas AG posted a first-quarter group pre-tax loss of Euros 1 million, after making a Euros 3.7 million group loss in the first quarter of 1999. The company said in a recent press statement that first-quarter sales were up 20% to Euros 142 million. Pipes and special-glass led group sales with a 21% increase before adjustments for the weaker Euro against the dollar, the company said. Sales in glass for pharmaceutical and cosmetic containers rose 6% from the last year“s first quarter.
