The German Packaging Institute is searching for the most creative packaging solutions of the year 2006. Under the patronage of Federal Minister Michael Glos, the 29th edition of the renowned German Packaging Award will be given for innovative packaging ideas and ground-breaking packaging design. In view of the large number of participants, the competition has been completely restructured. The award presentation ceremony will take place on 25 September 2006 at FachPack, the Nuremberg Packaging Fair. All award-winning and nominated entries will be exhibited from 26-28 September 2006 at the fair. The aim of the awards is to give fresh momentum to the sector and showcase novel packaging solutions, and the competition is open to designers, developers, producers and users of new packaging solutions that are on the market or ready for production. Prototypes and drafts can also be submitted by business apprentices and students. Prizes are awarded in five categories: Sales Packaging (Classic Primary Packages); Transport Packaging (Packages for Transport and Storage); Display and Promotion Packaging (e.g. Display Material, A-Boards); Design, Equipment and Refinement (e.g. Decorations, Closures, Labels, Packaging Families); and Prototypes (Solutions that have not been introduced on the market yet.) An independent top-class jury selects nominees and prize winners. The selection criteria include functionality, degree of innovation, emotional impact, profitability, ecology and safety. All applications are to be submitted to the German Packaging Institute (DVI) in Berlin by 15 July 2006. Application forms and further information are available on the DVI website or by phoning 0049.30.8049858-12.
