The US chemicals company General Chemical Group Inc. has raised its soda ash prices by US$ 5 a ton, effective immediately or as contracts permit. The increase is in addition to a US$ 5 per-ton increase announced at the end of September 2000. A spokesman for General Chemical Group said rising energy costs led to the company“s decision to raise its price and also shut down synthetic soda ash production at its plant in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada.
