G-Tech Optoelectronics Corp., a maker of ITO (indium-tin-oxide) glass and an affiliate of the Hon Hai Group, recently announced that it will complete construction of a sixth-generation (6G) glass-substrate production line in the third quarter of 2010. The Taiwan-based flat panel display (FPD)-related glass manufacturer also said it will invest USD 5 million in a subsidiary in the Xiamen Torch Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Fujian Province, mainland China. Alex Jiang, president of G-Tech, pointed out that his company started as a processor for small/medium-sized glass and now already operates 5G glass processing lines. For the next step, Jiang added, “G-Tech will set up a 6G glass processing line, and, by the end of the year, will be able to supply glass substrates for large-sized thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels and 6G touch panels. The president also explained that his company“s decision to set up a subsidiary at the existing plant campus in Xiamen had been made mainly in response to clients“ and the Hon Hai Group“s needs. The new subsidiary in Xiamen is 100% owned by G-Tech now, Jiang said, but might recruit some strategic partners in the future. According to Jiang, the new subsidiary will operate glass cutting, chemical tempering, ITO film-plating production lines. Jiang underlined that G-Tech would match its parent group“s policy to further strengthen its product lines and manufacturing capacity, as well as develop from a supplier of glass substrates for small/medium-sized portable devices also into a glass provider for monitors and TV panels.
