The Finnish Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre (PREC) has released national statistics showing that 94% of all bottles and cans that are included in the deposit system were returned to shops in Finland in 2008, a figure that has remained unchanged from 2007. The highest figures were achieved by refillable glass bottles: 96%, and non-refillable glass bottles: 94%, while the lowest recovery figures were achieved by non-refillable PET bottles: 75%. All recovered bottles and will be reused or recyled. Non-refillable bottles that are recovered to be used as raw material became free of tax at the beginning of 2008. This was seen as a strong increase in the market of non-refillable PET bottles with a deposit.
